Knowing isn’t always the same as being ready

Sometimes we already know.

We know the conversation needs to happen.

We know something has to change.

We know what we want to say.

We even know what the next step should be.

And yet, we don’t take it.

It’s easy to label that as procrastination, lack of confidence or simply “not getting on with it.”

But sometimes there’s something else going on.

Part of us may understand the decision intellectually, while another part is still catching up.

Because change isn’t always about finding the right answer.

Sometimes it’s about becoming ready to act on the answer we already have.

That can take honesty.

It can take time.

And it can take a willingness to look beneath the surface of what we’re telling ourselves.

Coaching isn’t always about helping someone discover something they didn’t know.

Sometimes it’s about creating the space to recognise what they already know — and understand what’s getting in the way of acting on it.

The question isn’t always “What do I need to know?”

Sometimes it’s:

“What do I already know, but haven’t yet allowed myself to act on?”
