Sometimes we don’t need another answer - we need to be heard!

There is a particular kind of relief that comes from being able to speak openly — without having to make your thoughts sound logical, positive or resolved.

To say:

“I don’t know.”

“I’m not sure why I feel like this.”

“Part of me wants this, but another part doesn’t.”

“I’ve never said this out loud before.”

And not immediately be met with advice.

Because when someone listens without rushing to fix, judge or redirect us, something interesting can happen.

We hear ourselves differently.

The things that felt tangled begin to separate.

What seemed like a problem sometimes turns out to be something else entirely.

And occasionally, something emerges that we couldn’t have reached by thinking harder on our own.

For me, this is one of the most powerful aspects of coaching.

Not giving someone the answer.

Not telling them what they should do.

Creating enough space for them to hear what is already trying to emerge.

There is power in being genuinely listened to.

And sometimes, that is where the real work begins.
